25 YEAR CAREER
Chryssie Whitehead delights in the philosophy of “being who you needed when you were younger,” driving her commitment to being both an inspiring educator and a mental health advocate. Her sole drive is to help people free up their minds in their art and in their lives in more ways than one! “When we take care of our brains, we take care of each other,” Chryssie’s show.
Chryssie lives, teaches and privately coaches in New York City in Washington Heights with her husband, Craig and fur baby, Jazz. They both can be found featured in her documentary.
Chryssie’s journey began in South Carolina and quickly soared as a Rockette right out of highschool, leading to acclaimed performances in film, television, and on Broadway as an actress, dancer and singer. An alumna of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in New York, Chryssie debuted on Broadway in the revival of A Chorus Line as Kristine, also featured in the hit documentary about the casting of the revival in 2006, Every Little Step. Her Broadway and New York repertoire includes Chicago (Kitty/Velma US) and Company at Lincoln Center with Neil Patrick Harris, Stephen Colbert and Patti Lupone. Regionally, she has captivated audiences as Bombalurina in Cats, Lola in Damn Yankees, and Cassie in A Chorus Line. Her screen credits extend to appearances in West Side Story (Directed by Steven Spielberg), Grey's Anatomy, Switched at Birth, Warehouse 13, Private Practice, The Mentalist, and more. Her versatile talents also led her to tour with Paul McCartney and be Julia Stiles’s dance double in Save the Last Dance.
Beyond performing, Chryssie has expanded her artistry into directing and choreographing educational productions of Legally Blonde, Chicago, A Chorus Line, Rent, Beauty and the Beast, Shrek, and Into the Woods.
She is the proud co-founder of Broadway Arts Community (BAC), established in 2017 with longtime friend and industry collaborator Alexis Carra. Based in NYC, BAC is a professional performing arts education company where the two coach and teach masterclasses using a holistic approach—strengthening both artistic training and the mindset required to navigate the demands of the industry.
In 2026, Chryssie and Alexis launched a sister non-profit, Broader Than Broadway, based in Tampa. The organization uses performing arts as a tool for personal growth, emphasizing what the arts can give an individual regardless of skill level or financial status. BTB serves middle and high school students and currently offers programming in Tampa, with plans to scale Broader Than Broadway to NYC.
Chryssie’s creative ventures include her autobiographical play, In My Own Little Corner, for which she and her co-lead producer Kirsten Wrinkle were awarded the 2025 Blanton-Peale Institute’s “Norman Vincent Peale Award for Positive Thinking.” The show also led to the creation of Chryssie’s company, In My Own Little Corner Productions, which utilizes the performing arts as a vehicle to open up conversations about mental health. Chryssie joyfully was a first time director of the documentary, The Stories Behind In My Own Little Corner, spotlighting the community of artists who helped her create this show on mental wellness. Both are being submitted to film festivals and pitched worldwide for distribution.
